October 1 means we’re now well into fall, and in California, that means it’s time to break out lightweight jackets and sweat in our boots and jeans. This month’s “have it” is one of my favorite, and most-used, jackets. I’m constantly drawn to military-inspired outerwear, but this lightweight canvas coat has a delicate and breathable knit back that’s so comfortable, no other similar jackets really compare. I’ve had this piece from Anthropologie for a couple of years now and I use it constantly, and year-round: it’s easy to layer over sweaters when it’s chilly, or wear alone over a tank-top on summer evenings.

Since I’m always a little sad to say goodbye to summer (who isn’t?) so it seemed appropriate to honor seasons past with a floral inspired outfit. The vintage texture and warm, autumn-esque colors in Ribbons of Red surface pattern seemed like just the thing to base a seasonally transitional outfit in: warm neutrals and pinks, with hints of rich green and burgundy. Where I live, this time of year requires either jeans or a jacket, but rarely both–the ideal (and elusive!) opportunity to pair a cute skirt with a masculine jacket, which is one of my favorite looks. And, of course, fall means I take every chance I get to slip into boots!
